Thanks for the comment, Sam! We have seen increased interest in random-width floors, but haven't seen the sales to really consider it trending just yet. As far as exotics go, we see continued interest in Ipe and Santos Mahogany.

Guys this is a pretty good list. I would throw in grey-toned floors, European oak and random-width floors. On the exotics, other than Braz Cherry and some Acacia we aren't seeing as much play on those. Which exotics are you moving?

Buying on hardness alone is very dangerous ! Some very ghard floors have very smooth graining patterns that hide very little while moderately hard species have graining patterns that hide life's boo- boo's very well, Graining,color and gloss lever are typically FAR more important that hardness. Also, ever use IPE in a arrid climate... oops ! Failure. Much more to selections than Janks ratings in my opinion. TR

You can install solid in a basement, you have to float it like laminate. Otherwise use engineered flooring, install a 2 part epoxy moisture barrier from titebond or Bostik's MVP and then you can glue it directly down with A good Urethane adhesive from Bostik's, Mapei or Franklin's.

Hello, my son is laying a floor of Canary and sent me three photos and it certainly looks like a beautiful wood but what a pathetic cup! Buy yourself a classy pottery mug to grace it and lets hope it doesn't become so popular that we will strip the forests of Brazil as we have with ebony, rosewood, Aussie tulip wood ( another Wow wood).Thank you for the information etc. Thailand is planting masses of teak all over he north. Teak doesnt have the visual action but is oily, rot and water resistant and one of the best carving woods on the planet.Laurie Payne
